Twenty-three years ago, intentionally skewed results from the billion dollar Women’s Health Initiative study falsely linked the use of hormone replacement therapy to an increased risk of breast cancer, stroke, and heart disease.
Headlines erupted. Prescriptions of HRT stopped, and an industry built on exploiting the suffering of people with ovaries exploded, leaving entire generations stripped of choice, silenced in their symptoms, and denied access to the very gender affirming care that could have relieved their suffering during perimenopause and menopause.
MENOPUNKS is our reckoning.
By 2030, one billion women will be in menopause. One. Billion.
Imagine if every man’s balls fell off by 50 — would the patriarchy stay quiet about that? Welcome to menopause: complete hormonal castration. And perimenopause? She’s the chaotic, b*tchy opening act that none of us can escape. The worst part? We’re seeking help from a medical system that keeps spreading the lie that hormone replacement therapy causes breast cancer — misinformation that’s been harming women’s health since 2002. Black Box warnings that have been warding people off HRT for 23 years have just been labeled a "mistake" by the FDA, and the truth behind the scandal that cost countless women their lives and well being must be told. Menopunks is a bold, unapologetic documentary and podcast that expose the truth behind the science and the silence. Backed by a fierce lineup of iconic GENX musicians and artists, hormonally radicalized medical practitioners, and unfiltered inter-generational celebrity powerhouses, we’re cranking up the volume on a conversation long overdue.
Menopunks isn’t just about hormones - it’s about power, autonomy, and the right to for all women and people AFAB to thrive through midlife and beyond. We’re turning a whisper network into a scream, shattering decades of misinformation to stage a full-throttle, hormonal revolution. Demanding what should’ve never been denied: access to hormonal optimization, and the unstoppable power that comes with it.
THE FILM:
Alongside explosive interviews debunking the persistent falsehoods surrounding HRT and a chorus of inter-generational celebrity Menopunks sharing their unfiltered feelings about the human and creative cost, we will feature intimate portraits of celebrated female musicians navigating midlife, including candid b-roll and conversations with director Alicia J. Rose about their experiences with peri\menopause and the creative process. At different stages of peri/menopause some of our cast of MENOPUNKS will engage in the process of hormonal optimization with our participant doctors and share their vulnerable experiences modeling how free access and accurate information about HRT along with proper mid-life care can be transformative for all people with ovaries.
